OK, I did get this and I do understand that it crosses far too many
boundaries for SMD etc. to dare release. Reminds me of Yes (Prime)
Minister scene: "that would be very brave of you minister", "brave,
me, oh goodness..."<sits down and mops brow> or something like that.
And it doesn't lack melody - in fact it is perfectly crafted, perhaps
not as dark as I'm currently into, but quirky, surprising, rich and
will reward many listens. Best thing I got for a long, long time.
And really there's nothing to be afraid of. I don't want to draw
comparisons with anything else - simply because the album as a whole
has no obvious reference, just bits of it maybe. It's not cold and
inaccessible and almost every track works on some level. Only a few
areas of bubble and squeak make me raise my eyebrows but I felt that
subsequent listens would make more sense (and so they did).
It's very hard for a new artist to get noticed - most especially when
they don't conform to the norm and do the same as everyone else. I
don't know how to persuade you to risk this one - if Mike's (proper)
review didn't do it then my blubberings won't. If you do like I
(usually) do and make a mental note to get it and then do bugger all,
it'll be your loss. Try something fresh for a change. Imagine how
difficult Electronic Music once was to get into but how rewarding it
was to have done so. You can do it again.
