Frozen Paint on Boiling Canvas
Visual Power

Otso Pakarinen a.k.a. Ozone Player, is an extremely talented and extremely humble performer. While some reviewers (one, actually – Jim Brenholts) have poked some good-natured fun at him in the past, it might have been at the expense of some words of praise. Otso, to his credit, has always taken it in stride and appreciated the humor.

Frozen Paint on Boiling Canvas and its review will change some of that. This is an outstanding CD! Otso has been developing his unique style that combines the Berlin school, synth pop, experimental sounds and subtle – very subtle – atmospheres. The Berlin school sequences and rhythms keep the set moving. The synth pop textures and timbres add integrity and body. The subtle atmospheres give the disc some space music appeal. The experimental sounds add touches of avant-garde and dissonance. The dissonance adds spice and flavor.

This CD has a lot to offer and has wide appeal. While it is not for the faint of heart it does not require an adventurous spirit. It is a great CD from one of the “good guys.”
